Before & After

Instead of the old concrete sidewalk, Gasper installed new dry laid bluestone walks with a clay brick border and bluestone supertread steps.  At the center point of the new courtyard where the views of the front door and the new walkway meet, a circular landing with a large cast stone urn was designed.  The urn is planted with seasonal plants and is a visual focal point both from the house and porch and for guest arriving via the front walk.  Find out more about this project here.

When an old deck and overgrown plant material was completely removed in this back yard, Gasper had a clean slate to design a new, multi-level, composite deck with an attached roof and outdoor kitchen.  Want to see more? Click here.

The concrete landing at the front door was capped with wet-laid bluestone and a new, wider step. The landing now leads down to an elegant curved dry laid bluestone walkway which connects the driveway and front door. Large overgrown plants were removed and replaced with size-appropriate plantings that were selected to look good year-round. Even the portico was rebuilt by one of Gasper’s skilled carpentry crews (with many of same details as the original), but in PVC which does not need to be painted and resists rot. See it here.

The previous existing deck had a lot of room in theory, but it always felt underutilized and disjointed Plus both the existing grill and the existing deck material needed repair and needed to be completely removed.  Gasper’s design lowered the main patio down three steps from the level of the house and brought the lower patio up three steps from the pool.  This brought each patio closer in elevation to each other and allowed for fewer steps between each level. On the main level, a new structure houses a large bar with a TV on a large masonry wall.  Attached to the structure is a stained cedar pergola which provides dappled shade over the main dining area.  Separate but adjacent to the structure is a new grill and cooking station. The new mid-level patio features a rectangular, gas fire pit and was reconfigured to be on axis with the large stone chimney and windows on the back of the house.   Want to see more? Click here.

Instead of a constraint, the Gasper Design used the steeply sloping backyard, limited level allowable building areas and the required retaining walls to become a major focal point of this new pool and pool house. There are areas for comfortable seating in front of the fireplace with space for a large screen TV above the mantle. The bar seating and kitchenette make entertaining simple and convenient. Air conditioning makes the pool house comfortable on the hottest of days and radiant flooring makes it cozy on chillier nights. Large glass, multi-slide doors allows the pool house to be completely open on the poolside. See more of this inspiring project here.

This job was transformed in 2 phases.  First the Gasper carpentry crews upgrading an existing wood deck to the current Timbertech, composite deck and covered it with a large roof to give protection from the sun and rain. Phase 2 involved upgrading the existing concrete pool to a beautiful silver colored travertine paving. Travertine is a natural stone paver that is perfect for pool patios because it stays much cooler in full sun and despite being exceptionally smooth, it is not slippery when wet.  To see more of this project visit here.

An old paver patio which was a hodgepodge of mismatched seating and outdoor elements became a new Gasper-built pavilion with a stone fireplace and room for deep comfortable seating. The new pavilion also has a travertine floor with an inset paver accent ‘rug.’ The dark paver banding which contrasts with the lighter colored travertine, both delineate the footprint of the pavilion and border the connecting walkways and other patio so that the entire space feels fully integrated.
