Creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor comfort with a new Gasper-built structure and a multi-level patio.
For this featured project, homeowners John and Tammy G. collaborated with Gasper designers, Erik Freeman and Nick Lupinacci to create a stunning and functional outdoor oasis. The centerpiece of their renovation is a beautifully crafted custom roof structure designed and built by Gasper, which seamlessly integrates with their existing home.

Gasper-Built Attached Roof Structure
One of the standout features of this custom roof structure is its ability to enhance the usability of the outdoor area throughout the seasons. By being physically attached to the house, the roof not only provides necessary coverage from the elements, but also maintains an aesthetic connection to the home, making it feel like an extension of their indoor living spaces.

Automatic Retractable Screens
Adding to the modern appeal, the structure is equipped with state-of-the-art automatic screens by Phantom Screens. This thoughtful addition allows John and Tammy to effortlessly control their outdoor experience with the push of a button, enabling them to raise or lower the screens as desired. This versatility means they can enjoy fresh air and beautiful views when the screens are up, while still having the option to protect their space from unwanted insects when the screens are down. The expansive screen panels create an open and airy atmosphere, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the outdoor space.

The upper patio is accessed through a sliding screen door when the screens are fully lowered. The image to the left below shows the screen door fully open, and the image to the right shows the door closed.

The Upper Patio
The upper patio is designed for casual seating and has comfortable cushioned seating that invites relaxation. This area is perfect for unwinding with a book, enjoying a cup of coffee, or simply taking in the surrounding garden views. The wet-laid construction of this patio contributes to its stability and refined look, as the paving stones are carefully placed on a solid concrete base with mortared joints, ensuring durability and an elegant finish.

The Lower Patio
In contrast, the lower patio serves as a designated dining area. This zone is well-suited for outdoor meals, gatherings, and entertaining friends and family. The dry-laid construction method used here involves setting the bluestone pavers on a compacted stone base and filling the joints with polymer sand, which accommodates movement and prevents shifting. Both patios feature stunning Pennsylvania bluestone, known for its rich color and natural cleft texture. This ties the two areas together visually while providing a cohesive, natural outdoor aesthetic.

Front Gasper-Built Portico
John and Tammy made a thoughtful design choice by adding a portico over the front door of their home. This architectural feature not only enhances the overall curb appeal, giving their house a more inviting and elegant appearance, but it also serves a practical purpose. A portico acts as a protective overhang, shielding the front entrance from various weather conditions, such as rain, snow, and even harsh sunlight. This means that visitors can approach the door without being exposed to the elements, making it a more welcoming space. Moreover, it adds an extra layer of comfort for the homeowners, allowing them to open the door without worrying about getting wet during a rainstorm. It was essential for the aesthetic style of the new portico to align with that of the original house, making it appear like an original feature.

Stepping Stone Walkways
Irregular Pennsylvania bluestone stepping stones connect the patio and driveway gate through the lawn. Stepping stones offer an aesthetically pleasing and affordable alternative to solid paver walkways.

Whether entertaining guests or simply relaxing with a book, this patio feels spacious and inviting, allowing the homeowners to maximize their outdoor living experience and perfectly blending the indoor out!
