Chrysa can’t wait to meet you and your little ones—don’t miss out on this delightful day!
Chrysa is the author of nine children’s books, including The Upside-Down Gardener. Her writing journey began right after college graduation, where she began promotional writing, jumped to editorial writing and added juvenile fiction to the list. For the past 18 years, she has been writing stories for children in grades K-2, visiting schools to share them and talk about the writing process.
When not talking about upside-down gardens, poodles and baseball, she pens a ‘style’ column for Bucks County Magazine, Arts News Now (also out of Bucks) and Lake and Country Magazine in Wisconsin.
She lives in Central Bucks with her husband and Bichpoo, Bailey.
In it, a young, gritty, NYC girl can’t wait for warm weather (like many of us.) While waiting her mom suggests that together, they plant a small garden in their tiny NYC yard.
Impatiently waiting, Dory tries to ‘wake up’ her garden in some unusual ways—an alarm clock, a pot of coffee, a whistle. Of course, while those attempts were in vain, something magical happened. Something that nobody on the entire block and train station imagined. Find out in this imaginative, beautifully illustrated book, perfect for independent readers, 6+.
On one of my trips to the Philadelphia Flower Show, the seeds of inspiration were planted. The purchase and planting of a root was a gardening experiment that went awry, I discovered that I had planted it upside-down. Thus, the name: The Upside-Down Gardener. Only in the book, a young girl’s imagination intertwines with some real gardening education that results in a story with some wild and magical events—and a message about growth and change.
It’s been the recipient of a Females in Fiction award and loved by many a little gardener.
